⚖️ Core Veneer Calculator
Densities are average reference values. Actual core veneer density varies by 5–15% with MC, tree age, growth rate and peeling quality.
📊 Species comparison
📐 How to calculate
- Convert size to metres. 1 ft = 0.3048 m; 1 mm = 0.001 m.
L(m) × W(m) × T(m) - Find the volume of one veneer sheet.
Volume (m³) = Length × Width × Thickness - Adjust the species density for moisture (MC). Reference densities are at 12% MC.
Density = Reference density × (1 + MC/100) ÷ 1.12 - Calculate weight.
Weight per sheet (kg) = Volume × Density and Total weight = Weight per sheet × No. of sheets - Sheets per CBM.
Sheets per CBM = 1 ÷ Volume per sheet - Check actual density (optional). Weigh one sheet and divide by its volume.
Measured density = Weight (kg) ÷ Volume (m³)
❓ Frequently asked questions
What is core veneer?
Core veneer is a thin sheet peeled from a log (usually 1.2–2.5 mm thick) and used for the inner layers of plywood. Fast-growing species such as Poplar, Eucalyptus and Melia Dubia are widely used in India.
How do I calculate the weight of one core veneer sheet?
Convert the size to metres, multiply Length × Width × Thickness to get the volume in m³, then multiply by the species density in kg/m³. Example: 8 × 4 ft at 1.8 mm is about 0.00535 m³, so Eucalyptus (650 kg/m³) weighs about 3.5 kg per sheet.
How many 8 × 4 ft core veneer sheets make 1 CBM at 1.8 mm?
About 187 sheets. Sheets per CBM = 1 ÷ volume of one sheet (0.00535 m³).
Which species in this calculator is the lightest and the heaviest?
Kadam (about 400 kg/m³) and Poplar (about 420 kg/m³) are the lightest; Eucalyptus (about 650 kg/m³) is the heaviest of the species listed.
Does moisture content change veneer density?
Yes. Wetter veneer weighs more. This calculator adjusts the 12% MC reference density using Density × (1 + MC/100) ÷ 1.12, which is an approximation.
Are the densities exact?
No. They are average reference values. Actual density varies by roughly 5–15% with moisture, tree age, growth rate and peeling quality, so weigh a sample sheet and use the measured-density option for accuracy.
